Slowly, carefully, with trust issues of others (having heard so many negative things about Republicans), moving away from Democrats.

As I'd said elsewhere, I am here because my friend Kim forwarded me a copy of a GOP Newsletter. She had been working on/with me for some time about how the Democrat Party is clearly no longer in line with my values. I have always thought one could still be patriotic and a Democrat. Wow, I so now recognize how wrong I was. I chimed in on the Olympic girl Gwen turning her back, bad-mouthing the National Anthem, and our Country, that was the last straw for me. I was blind, but now I see. My eyes are open Thanks to Kim, slowly, carefully, knowing I'd have trust issues, and still do after so many years of lies about the Republicans and especially those "evil Conservatives" the MSM kept feeding me and I kept eating up for far too long. So, I do move slowly, carefully, still with trust issues, but as Reagan said Kim introduced me to I'd never heard him say "trust, but verify" which is a very sensible attitude. I will no longer blindly trust in and follow without question the Democrats, but nor will I the GOP either. They will have to work to continue to earn my trust and continued movement to greater support of the GOP itself and careful in determining Republican Candidates that can be trusted as I've read a few comments about Republicans In Name Only here on this very site to be weary of. Be patient with us baby Conservatives / Republicans as we gain our buoyancy in these new waters.
